Arcion Therapeutics applies breakthroughs in neuroscience to advance the treatment of chronic pain. The company focuses on innovative topical treatments to provide pain relief with convenient application and reduced systemic side effects. Arcion's product pipeline comprises multiple candidates to treat neuropathic pain, a complex and debilitating form of chronic pain.

Neuropathic Skin Biopsy
This image demonstrates skin with normal nerve fiber density (Epidermal Nerve Fiber Density). Arrow points to the small nerve fiber in the epidermal layer of skin, arrowhead points to the basement membrane that separates the dermis from the epidermis.

Normal Skin Biopsy
Skin with low normal nerve fibers, consistent with small fiber neuropathy. The arrow points to the basement membrane of the epidermis.
Arcion's core technology is based on research which showed that in many neuropathic pain conditions, the signal that triggers pain actually arises at the level of the skin. This finding provides a strong biological rationale for developing topically delivered drugs to target the pain at the source - the pain receptors in the skin.
Arcion's lead clinical program, ARC-4558, is a 0.1% gel formulation of clonidine hydrochloride for topical administration in late-stage development for painful diabetic neuropathy (PDN). Arcion intends to develop additional product candidates for multiple chronic and neuropathic pain conditions, including post-herpetic neuralgia (PHN).
Arcion's strategy is to focus on innovative topical treatments and leverage its expertise in understanding the biology underlying the neuropathic pain condition. By doing this, Arcion believes that it can rapidly advance novel therapeutics to clinical proof-of-concept. As clinical progress continues to be made on the development of ARC-4558, Arcion will seek partnership-related options for further development and commercialization of the lead product candidate.
